Here we have a Genuine 2 Owner RS2000 Custom which was last on the road in 1992. Its been stored in a dry storage container for about the last 15 years or so. we have known about this car for a long time and finally got the chance to buy it recently. We have the V5 which states 1 previous owner. it also says Rs custom. We dont have any other history for the car. When we got it it was in bits but we screwed a lot of it back together just so we could see what is there and whats not there. We also gave it a clean as dont really believe in trying to hide a car underneath that expensive "barn find" dust.
Body - Genuine RS2000 shell, with all the right brackets in the right places. Tramp bar brackets etc are all original and not been spugged on to a 1. 3L. It will need work in the following areas. Outer floors from chassis rail to sill section, rear boot wells, bulkhead lip at bottom heater bubble needs a small repair. Centres floors are really good and original. Inner wings and slam panel have been replaced at some point in its life. No number on the strut top but someone has had the foresight to keep the original strut top plate which could be reinstated. Its obviously the original one and not a repro one. It still has its original vin plate and build tag. Nosecone is in good order. wings will go again. Doors are good but will need a tidy up at the bottom. Good bumpers. Front and rear windscreen was missing but we found a rear one here. There is currently no front windscreen. Car previously had a brown vinyl roof which was removed. We have the hockey sticks
Mechanics - When we got it car had the original 4 speed gearbox and original matching numbers engine block in it. It has the correct sump. mounts and bellhousing on it. The bottom end does turn over but will need a rebuild. The head is just sitting on and has no camshaft in it. Again timing belt cover is just sitting on. crossmember is the correct one. Tramp bars are attached to the shell but axle has been replaced by a non rs one at some point, possibly to get the car rolling. We do not have the correct Rs axle for it. In the boot there are loads of parts which we never put on as it needs stripped for restoration. We have the heater box, wiper motor, thermostat housing, fan, starter, alternator and more. The headlining is also with the car but not fitted. propshaft is also with the car but no sign of an exhaust.
Interior - Good dash top, correct Rs clocks, fishnet recaros which will need refurbed. Front door cards have had speakers, rear door cards are ok.
Wheels - 4 x Matching 1/ 78 RS Alloys. Nuts need replacing as do tyres. Wheels will need refurbed
This will be a great project for someone. OK you can probably get a scruffy one for a few grand more, but you can replicate the low owners.
