Description
For sale: Mercedes-Benz 190E 2. 5-16 Evolution
An original example of one of Mercedes-Benz’s most iconic homologation models, developed in the late 1980s to enable participation in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM). Production was limited to approximately 500 units, this being chassis number 174.
Powered by the renowned 2. 5-16 inline-four engine (2463 cc), featuring a cylinder head developed in partnership with Cosworth, this model stands out for its motorsport-focused engineering and distinctive character. It is also equipped with a 5-speed manual “dogleg” gearbox, allowing quicker shifts between 2nd and 3rd gear — a solution typically found in competition cars of the era.
This W201 is a matching numbers example, retaining its original engine and major components. First registered in Germany in 1989, it was later imported to Portugal in 1994. The most recent owner kept the car in a private collection for over two decades.
Used sparingly, the car remains in running condition and ready to be enjoyed. It is currently fitted with Evolution II wheels, with the original wheels included in the sale. From a cosmetic standpoint, a repaint could be considered to bring the overall condition to the level this model deserves.
More than 200 detailed photographs, along with a full walkaround video, are available upon request.
Price: €135, 000 – payment in Euros.
The car can be reserved with a deposit. Should the vehicle not correspond to the description or to what is shown in photos/ video, the deposit will be fully refunded.
The car is located in Portugal, near Porto Airport. There are several low-cost flight options available, and I would be pleased to collect any interested buyer from the airport.
Transport is at the buyer’s expense; however, I can provide contacts for reputable classic and collector car transport specialists.
