Description
In 1969, Kawasaki began sales of the H1 in North America, powered by a 500cc three-cylinder two-stroke engine. By 1972, the lineup had expanded to four models with the addition of 250cc, 350cc, and 750cc variants, and the Mach series quickly gained widespread popularity.
The example offered here is the Mach II (S2), fitted with the 350cc engine first introduced in 1971.
Known as the “Middle Mach,” the 350SS Mach II held the largest displacement among non-H-series Mach models until the debut of the 400SS Mach II (S3), equipped with a 400cc engine, at the 1973 Tokyo Motor Show.
This particular motorcycle is the later-production S2T model, introduced in 1973, among the 350SS Mach II range. Its distinguishing feature is the upgrade from front and rear drum brakes to a hydraulic single disc brake on the front wheel only, making it the final S2 model, and this example is a re-imported overseas-market vehicle.
While it retains a highly original appearance, the seat has been reupholstered in Japan. The previous owner had been preparing the bike for personal enjoyment, though it is currently not registered with Japanese license plates.
As it is accompanied by its customs clearance certificate and manufacturer’s certificate, this is a motorcycle eligible for registration in Japan.
