BSA Gold Star 'Daytona' Replica Rolling Chassis
Registration no. not registered
Frame no. GSDAthe details below (see text)
Engine no. n/ a

"On two occasions only were post-war Gold Stars supplied with rigid frames for racing purposes. One of these was for use in the USA (including the 1954 Daytona Races) and the other, in 1956, also in the USA for flat track racing (half-mile track, usually dirt)." - A Golland, Goldie.

One of the rarer Gold Stars, particularly on this side of the Atlantic, the rigid-framed Daytona competition variant was manufactured in relatively small numbers for little more than a couple of years. As well as the rigid duplex frame - lightweight and all-welded - the Daytona was distinguished by its huge Vokes air filter, shortened front mudguard, racing seat supported by tubular stays, and a low-mounted oil tank that looked suspiciously like a modified plunger B31 toolbox (which it was!). The high point of BSA's Daytona 200 campaign came in 1954 when the Small Heath bikes filled the first five places; the Goldies in 3rd, 4th and 5th being headed only by two Star Twins.

Restored during 2025/ 2026, this replica rolling chassis is presented in very nice condition, boasting a powder-coated frame, fork yokes, fork sliders, etc; re-plated brightwork; and new tyres. It should be noted that the frame number stamping is not a factory stamp and therefore prospective bidders must satisfy themselves as to the authenticity of the lot prior to bidding. There are no documents with this Lot.

All lots are sold ‘as is/ where is’ and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams Motorcycles website for all pertinent auction information.
