Bodywork / Exterior:
The model presented here is an Austin Healey 3000 MK3 BJ8 from January 1967 in its period colour “Ice Metallic Blue”.
The bodywork is in excellent showroom condition and the paint has a deep tone and excellent gloss.
After professional orbital polishing carried out by our workshop, we noted a small paint chip on the top of the left front wing and a slight misalignment on the bonnet.
The chromed front and rear bumpers and their rubber overriders are in good condition despite a few light signs of oxidation.
The “Blue” mohair hood is in excellent condition. It was replaced in 2022 (invoice: €2, 390).
The rear window mica shows a few micro-scratches.
Fitting of the hood is straightforward and its sealing remains in line with the standards of the time.
This example is equipped with a faux-leather hood cover in “Blue”.
All 4 chromed wire wheels in 15” are in perfect condition.
The 4 chromed knock-offs are also in good condition.
The 2 front DIMAR Classic tyres show 15% wear.
The 2 rear HANKOOK tyres show 5% wear.
This car has retained its original spare wheel (chromed wire wheel).
Among the interesting equipment and options “Bodywork / Exterior” fitted to this example, we note:
- The faux-leather hood cover in “Blue”.
Interior:
The faux-leather trim in “Blue” with “Gold” piping was restored a few years ago and remains in very good condition.
The matching door cards and the centre console in faux leather in “Blue” are in perfect condition.
The blue faux-leather centre armrest has a small tear.
The dashboard cover (dash top) in faux leather in “Black” is in very good condition.
The dashboard and the walnut dash cowl/ box (glovebox area) in walnut veneer are in perfect condition.
This example is equipped with a 3-spoke wooden MOTO-LITA steering wheel as well as 2-point “aviation”-type seat belts.
The Austin Healey wooden gear knob shows an even patina from use.
The complete original SMITHS dashboard instrumentation is perfectly functional.
Only the ventilation/ heater unit is no longer operational.
The period radio is no longer functional, but has been retained for aesthetic reasons.
The “Blue” carpets show slight fading.
The front sections are protected by custom-fit Austin Healey PVC overmats in “Black”.
Among the interesting equipment and options “Interior” fitted to this example, we note:
- The 3-spoke wooden steering wheel (MOTO LITA), the “Blue” faux-leather trim with “Gold” piping, and the aviation-type seat belts.
Chassis:
Up on the ramp, everything confirms a solid chassis and body, with no obvious structural corrosion.
The fundamentals—floorpans, lower sills, ladder-frame chassis and longitudinals—are in good condition.
We found a few minor scuffs/ jack marks under the right-hand longitudinal member and at the bottom of the passenger-side wing.
During the road test, we found no abnormal noises from the body or running gear (ball joints, bushes/ silentblocks, etc.).
Usage disclaimer: as a rule, we cannot guarantee perfect panel alignments beyond their good visual and functional condition verified during the road test and on the ramp.
The braking is aligned, stable, and its effectiveness remains in line with the standards of the period.
Its efficiency is improved thanks to a new Mastervac (brake assistance) hidden in the engine compartment.
The front brake discs show 10% wear.
The front brake pads show 30% wear.
The pre-delivery technical inspection will confirm that everything is operating correctly.
Engine / Transmission:
The mechanical components are working perfectly.
Compression tests and the road test carried out by our workshop confirm a healthy engine.
The 6-cylinder starts on the first turn and the idle is stable, as confirmed by the 360° video filmed with the engine running and available at the beginning of the slideshow.
On the move, the engine pulls cleanly without hesitation or overheating.
The oil pressure recorded cold by our workshop is 50 psi at 500 rpm.
Engine reliability is improved by the presence of an additional fan.
The 6-cylinder’s sound is enhanced by a complete stainless-steel exhaust system (except the manifold). This was replaced new in 2024 (invoice: €2, 024).
The gearbox works perfectly: all 4 gears engage and drop cleanly with no issues at the synchros.
The Healey 3000 BJ8 is also fitted as standard with an interesting accessory: Overdrive, allowing electric overdrive on gears 3 and 4.
It works perfectly.
As is often the case with older mechanicals, engine/ gearbox/ differential sealing remains average.
Among the interesting accessories and equipment “Engine / Transmission” fitted to this example, we note: the overdrive, the battery cut-off switch, the sports air filters, and the additional electric fan.
