Believed-original 29, 100 miles from new
Very original machine refurbished in 2023
The Honda Motor Company was founded by Soichiro Honda in 1937, initially producing piston rings for Toyota. They made their first motorcycle in 1949 and within 10 years had become the biggest producer in the world. They have gone on to manufacture over 400 million two-wheelers as well as millions of other power products.
The VFR750F was launched in 1986, and featured a marvellous DOHC, four-stroke, 16-valve, carburetted and water-cooled V4 of 748cc. Its VF700 predecessor had suffered from defective cams, so Honda went out of its way to make sure the VFR750F was, if anything, over-engineered. It produced a lively 104bhp and, with six speeds to play with, was a remarkably flexible bike. There were frequent updates, and 1988-89 models were distinguished by a revised fairing and a redesigned exhaust system.
This 1989 VFR750F has had just four previous keepers, including its most recent buyer, a late motorcycle collector. It was refurbished and returned to the road in 2023, having previously been out of use for 15 years or more, hence we believe the mileage reading of 29, 100 is probably original. It is largely a very original bike, though the exhaust is aftermarket. Although recently MOTed, with certificate valid until February, 2027, it has not generally seen use for a couple of years, so some recommissioning may be required. The current V5C is supplied.
