Description

1970 ASTON MARTIN DBS VANTAGE – £139, 995
A rare opportunity to acquire one of the most desirable and collectable variants of the DBS range; a matching-numbers 1970 Aston Martin DBS Vantage Manual, presented with extensive history, documented low mileage and benefitting from recent recommissioning after almost three decades in storage.

Accompanied by its Aston Martin Heritage Certificate, this example was completed on 4th November 1970 and supplied new by Lindsay Motors Limited. Built to coveted DBS ZF Vantage specification, it retains its original matching-numbers Vantage engine and manual transmission, making it a particularly sought-after example among enthusiasts and collectors alike.

The Heritage Certificate confirms the car’s original factory specification, including the Vantage engine, ZF manual gearbox, 3. 77:1 rear axle ratio, Radiomobile radio, Avon radial tyres, English Lighting headlamps, Smiths MPH speedometer and Woburn Sand Fawn carpeting.

Powered by Aston Martin’s celebrated 3, 995cc twin-cam straight-six engine breathing through triple Weber carburettors, the DBS Vantage was the ultimate six-cylinder DBS offered by the factory. Producing approximately 325 bhp, the Vantage delivered significantly enhanced performance over the standard DBS and represented Aston Martin’s most sporting grand tourer prior to the arrival of the V8 models. Combined with the desirable ZF five-speed manual gearbox, it remains one of the purest and most engaging driving Aston Martins of its era.

With just six former keepers from new, this car is supported by an impressive and highly detailed history file containing invoices, maintenance records and MOT certificates spanning several decades. The documentation paints a fascinating picture of the car’s life and careful upkeep.

Particularly noteworthy is the documented mileage history. MOT certificates from 1979 through to 1996 substantiate the car’s low mileage, while records show the original speedometer and tachometer were replaced due to failure. The replacement speedometer was fitted in 1990 when the vehicle had just exceeded 27, 000 miles. Since that time, only 2, 100 miles have been covered, placing the total mileage at 29, 100. The accompanying paperwork provides compelling evidence of this exceptionally low figure.

Prior to entering storage in 1996, the car benefited from a cylinder head overhaul and new cylinder head studs carried out by Aston Services of Dorset.

Having remained in storage for almost 30 years, the DBS has recently undergone a comprehensive recommissioning programme by Coachouse Motor Bodies regarless of cost. Works included draining and renewing the fuel system, rebuilding the fuel pump, fitting replacement carburettors and tuning, renewing ignition components, replacing hoses and service items, refurbishment of the brake master cylinder, rebuilding the brake calipers, skimming brake discs, replacing hydraulic pipes and hoses, overhauling the clutch hydraulics, rebuilding the steering rack, refurbishing suspension components and carrying out structural underside repairs where required, followed by rustproofing and road testing.

Most recently, the car has received a full exterior and interior detail, machine polish and ceramic coating. The DBS presents extremely well and offers a wonderful balance between originality and usability. Whilst a future cosmetic restoration and repaint could elevate the car further, it is an eminently usable and highly enjoyable example exactly as it stands today.

Complete with its original owner’s handbook, Aston Martin Heritage Certificate, extensive history file and documented low mileage provenance, this rare DBS Vantage Manual represents a significant opportunity to acquire one of the finest and most desirable six-cylinder Aston Martins of the period.

A beautifully preserved and increasingly rare matching-numbers DBS Vantage, ready for its next custodian to enjoy.
