A rare veteran Royal Enfield with J. A. P V-twin engine
Restored and presented in good condtion
Supplied with current V5C and folder containing VMCC certificates and technical information
Founded in 1893, Royal Enfield is one of the world’s oldest motorcycle marques still in continuous production. Originally established in Redditch, England, the company earned its reputation for producing robust, dependable machines, famously adopting the slogan “Made Like a Gun” – a reference to the precision engineering associated with the Royal Small Arms Factory in Enfield. The 1916 Royal Enfield 6HP represents one of the marque’s most capable and prestigious veteran motorcycles. Powered by a substantial 771cc J. A. P V-twin engine, the 6HP was designed to provide dependable performance, and comfortable long-distance touring at a time when motorcycling was rapidly evolving. Produced during the First World War, these machines showcased Royal Enfield’s reputation for robust engineering and craftsmanship, forming the basis of military combinations used to carry Maxim machine guns. Today, surviving examples are highly sought after for their rarity and historical importance.
Purchased by the vendor in 2017 as a restoration project, this 1916 Royal Enfield 6HP has since been extensively overhauled to create a complete and useable example that retains many of its correct period components. It was last used on the road approximately 12 months ago before being placed into storage as part of a large private collection of pre-war motorcycles. We are advised that the engine has been run recently; however, as with any machine that has been in storage, prospective purchasers should expect to carry out a degree of recommissioning before returning it to regular road use. BF 6310 is offered with a current V5C registration document, a selection of invoices, VMCC certificates for the frame and engine numbers, a small quantity of spare parts including starter handle, and a folder containing copies of technical diagrams and reference information.
