But to be honest: a Mercedes-Benz that was delivered to the USA in 1988 and returned to Germany around ten years ago – no one can guarantee it has been maintained continuously by an authorised Mercedes-Benz partner. If such a vehicle lands with a meticulous entrepreneur from southern Germany, who spares no effort to bring his 560 to the desired service status, that means everything has been checked from A to Z and, if necessary, replaced. Among other things, after a substantial, truly comprehensive service, a new Sonnenland soft top was installed. Additionally, the seats were completely reupholstered and the leather refined, of course by a well-known specialist, in the original leather colour, as evidenced by the total invoice. But that is not all: after around 38 years, the paint cannot look as new even with polishing. The 560 received a complete repaint, exactly in the original delivery colour 702 Rauchsilber-met./ met., of course in a local master workshop. There are before/ after photos. The before photos can be admired in the TÜV report from late 2022, and during this inspection it was noted that the SL is rust-free (not welded) and accident-free. A very well-kept, 38-year-old vehicle. The mileage is also consistent: in the last 10 years only about 25, 000 km were driven in the summer months.
But that is not all. A discreet-sounding yet clearly characterful stainless steel sport exhaust with highly polished stainless steel sport tails was installed. In addition, a wood/ sport steering wheel without airbag (registered!). The original steering wheel is available and will be supplied or reinstalled and the airbag activated. The price includes a flawless hardtop. An on-site inspection is possible. Alternatively, the mounted wheels can be swapped for nearly new Baroque wheels. The TÜV report rated the vehicle as a 2- before the extensive investments. An honest 560SL, with traceable history, in good, well-maintained condition!
Not to mention: Matching Numbers – the engine/ automatic transmission installed at factory in 1988 is still mounted in the vehicle.
