The Mercedes-Benz 280 CE, produced in the early 1970s, is one of the most successful and elegant coupés of its time – a car that was created in an era when Mercedes was still building vehicles with an emphasis on durability, reliable engineering and timeless design without compromise. The CE (Coupé Einspritzung) designation stands for fuel injection, which at the time made it the top-of-the-range model in the W114/ W115 coupé range and, at the same time, the most technically advanced variant, featuring a smooth M110 inline six-cylinder engine with a displacement of 2746 cm³. Under the rear bonnet lies a naturally aspirated inline six-cylinder engine producing approximately 136 kW (185 koní), which gives the car a refined yet very confident character. Combined with rear-wheel drive (RWD) and a comfort-oriented chassis set-up, it is a typical grand tourer of its era – a car that can be comfortable on long journeys, whilst retaining mechanical integrity and old-school driving character. This particular 1972 model is also exceptionally interesting due to its history. It originally comes from Switzerland, an environment where cars are typically maintained over the long term in above-average technical and aesthetic condition. In the 1990s, it was imported to the Czech Republic, where it has retained its original character and long history of use, as evidenced by its old Czech registration number. Such continuity is increasingly rare among classic Mercedes models today and significantly enhances the car’s collector’s value.
