Inspired, at least partially, by a new generation of more driver-orientated luxury cars as typified by the BMW 7-series and Mercedes-Benz S-class, the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II was announced in February, 1977. While the young German pretenders could not be viewed as direct competition (if only on cost grounds), they illustrated the increasing importance that the buying public was placing on chassis dynamics. Thus, while the new model utilised the same four-door monocoque bodyshell, mellifluous 6, 750cc V8 engine and smooth-shifting GM400 series automatic gearbox as the outgoing Shadow, it gained a prominent front air dam, larger one-piece bumpers, revised front suspension geometry and, most importantly of all, power-assisted rack and pinion steering. Undeniably better to drive, the Shadow II further benefited from the adoption of a more ergonomic fascia and split-level air conditioning. Still trimmed with the finest quality leather hides, wood veneers, chrome fixtures and carpets available, it treated occupants to a uniquely cosseting experience.

This Silver Shadow II is perhaps at its most elegant in this scheme of Willow Gold with Champagne upholstery. The car had only ten registered keepers up to 2025, and has covered a documented total of 60, 500 miles from new. Originally supplied through Lex Mead Bristol, the Shadow survives with its original service book displaying seventeen service stamps spanning 1980 to 1997. The initial service and two subsequent services were performed by Lex Mead, with the subsequent stamps issued by Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialists the Bristol Motor Co. and Broughtons of Bristol.

Having achieved its 58, 000th mile in 2014, the Shadow has been in continuous but very sparing use since, with a brief hiatus while it underwent a programme of improvements during 2025 with another marque specialist, the Ristes Motor Co., which cost a total of £2, 200. Despite being exempt from testing since 2020, the fact that this Rolls-Royce was most recently submitted for (and passed) an MOT in 2024 is testament to the confidence the previous owner had in it. Supplied with its complete original book pack and a V5C.
