Description
The Porsche 968 Cabriolet represents the final evolution of Porsche’s transaxle concept, which had been developed since the 924 and 944 models. The car was launched in 1991 as the successor to the 944 S2 and became the most technically advanced four-cylinder sports car of its time produced by Porsche. The front-engine, rear-transmission layout ensured an almost ideal weight distribution, which had a positive effect on handling and stability at high speeds. The 968 Cabriolet combined an open-top body with the more comfortable character of a grand tourer, whilst retaining the precise steering and balanced chassis typical of early 1990s Porsche cars. This particular example was manufactured in 1992 and was originally registered in Japan. The car is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3. 0-litre inline four-cylinder engine producing 177 kW at 6, 200 rpm, which was, at the time, the largest series-production four-cylinder petrol engine in a passenger car. The engine is mated to an automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. The car’s bodywork is painted in black and, according to the available documentation, the car has not been restored or modified. Historical testing carried out in 2022 classified the car as condition group 1 – original condition, with technical authenticity grade A. It is therefore an exceptionally well-preserved example with a documented history, imported into the Czech Republic in 2022 and registered as a historic vehicle.
