The 1956 Cadillac is one of the most striking examples of American automotive design from the 1950s. The distinctive panoramic windscreen, lavish chrome trim, elegant proportions and the emerging trend for striking rear fins made these cars a symbol of luxury and prosperity in post-war America. The Series 62 range was the flagship model in Cadillac’s line-up, and the Sedan de Ville version offered a high level of comfort and a prestigious appearance. The car is built on a robust ladder-frame chassis with independent front suspension and a rigid rear axle, whilst power is provided by a V8 engine mated to a Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. According to the production badge, it was delivered from the factory in Ebony Black with a grey interior, whilst the bodywork was produced by the Fleetwood Body division.
