The Honda Fireblade reshaped the superbike class by prioritising light weight and agile handling over outright engine capacity. Conceived by Honda engineer Tadao Baba, the model quickly earned a reputation for combining strong performance with exceptional balance and usability. By the late 1990s the Fireblade had evolved into a highly refined machine, powered by a responsive inline four-cylinder engine and built around a lightweight aluminium frame that delivered the sharp, confidence-inspiring handling for which the model became famous. The Fireblade’s blend of strong mid-range performance, compact proportions and precise chassis dynamics helped establish it as one of the defining superbikes of its generation. Its purposeful styling further cemented its status as an icon of late-1990s Japanese performance motorcycling.
Offered from 23 years of ownership, the vendor has covered approximately 15, 000 of the bike’s 30, 000 miles and has invested considerably in its maintenance and upkeep. R43 UNN has been carefully maintained, with significant time and money spent preserving and improving it.
There are some age-related cosmetic marks, consistent with a motorcycle of this age, but overall it presents as an honest and well-cared-for example. Over the years, the bike has benefited from numerous considered improvements, including a Nitron adjustable rear shock, overhauled front forks, upgraded braking components, a 17-inch front wheel conversion, stainless-steel exhaust system and manual cam-chain tensioner. More recently, the carburettor inlet rubbers have been replaced and the fuel tap rebuilt. The vendor reports that the engine was overhauled at approximately 16, 000 miles. It was subsequently fully serviced approximately 2, 000 miles ago, including a cooling-system flush.
R43 UNN is supplied with a current V5C, a new MOT with zero advisories and two new tyres fitted prior to sale. A useful selection of spare parts is also included, comprising genuine Honda carburettor balancing gauges, a rocker cover, spare camshafts, spare new tyres, an end can and a box containing a selection of special Honda workshop tools.
