The Mercedes-Benz W124 Coupé represents one of the high points of an era when cars were built with the aim of achieving technical perfection, rather than cost-saving. The 300 CE-24 model was, in its day, the showcase of the upper-middle class – its elegant pillarless body, combined with the then-revolutionary 24-valve six-cylinder engine, offered performance that still commands respect today. Interestingly, thanks to the absence of a B-pillar and an electric seatbelt feeder, this was a car that defined the modern luxury coupé. Many collectors rightly claim that the 124 series is the last ‘true’ Mercedes designed by engineers, not accountants, a fact confirmed by its legendary mechanical durability and the quality of the materials used. This particular example from 1996 (the year production of this series ended) comes from sunny Italy, which is the best possible news for a future owner – the bodywork and chassis are in exceptionally good condition thanks to the absence of salt exposure.
