Description
Lexus SC-Serie 430 V8, 2006. Two owners, 62, 458 km, service books from new.
When I was young, Japanese cars had a reputation. They were reliable, they were practical, and they were about as thrilling as a boiled potato at your great-aunt's birthday party. Toyota filled the world with Corollas that keep running long past the heat death of the universe, but nobody ever pinned a poster of a Camry above their bed. Japan could build anything. Desire, however, only came in small doses.
And then Toyota did something strange. They dreamed up Lexus, a brand that wanted to teach the Germans a lesson in silence and solidity, and then, within that brand, they went and built a car that was about nothing at all. Nothing, in the loveliest sense of the word. A two-door coupe with an electrically folding steel roof, a V8 under the bonnet, four seats that are really two and a half, and an interior that feels as though it was decorated by someone who had just come back from a long weekend in Portofino. This is not a car built for a purpose. This is a car that simply liked being here.
The SC430 is a fascinating beast, you see. Under the bonnet sits the 3UZ-FE, a 4. 3 litre V8 you will also find in the larger Lexus models, celebrated for being all but indestructible. 286 bhp, smooth as warm butter, and a sound that never shouts but is always present. A civilised growl, like a butler clearing his throat before announcing that dinner is served. Fast it is, but it has not the slightest need to prove it to you. That is exactly the charm of it.
The story continues on our website, where the full file is kept as well. 82 photographs. The service history, scanned in full. The Carfax report. Paint thickness measured panel by panel. The original factory brochure to page through. A timeline from 17 February 2006 to today, with every owner and the mileage year by year in a single graph.
