The Saturno was born in 1940, but it was in the following decade that it found its true calling. Built around a single-cylinder four-stroke 500 cc engine with overhead camshaft, it represents what Gilera, founded in Arcore in 1909 by Giuseppe Gilera, knew how to do best in terms of road-going engineering. A straightforward, robust architecture with proven reliability, clothed in lines of timeless elegance that earned the machine a reputation far beyond Italian borders.
The Sport version is the most desirable variant in the Saturno range. This example brings together the most characteristic and appealing elements of the machine: the large red fuel tank adorned with its Gilera badge, the exposed aluminium cylinder head—a visual and technical signature of an era when mechanics were displayed without apology—the inclined single-cylinder engine, the single-seat sprung saddle, and the enveloping mudguards whose generous curves complete a silhouette of absolute coherence, not to mention the evolution of its fork for improved stability.
A rare piece, a machine whose mere presence is enough to stop conversations.
