This exceptional 1972 BMW 2002 tii presents a rare opportunity to acquire one of BMW’s more celebrated classic sporting saloons. A desirable round-tail-light model in right-hand drive, this extensively and beautifully restored example includes a host of carefully selected mechanical upgrades.
Finished in eye-catching Verona Red with a contrasting black interior, this 2002 tii packs a lot of character into its compact proportions, with the genuine BBS RS alloy wheels providing an authentic period-inspired finishing touch.
With just three previous owners and approximately 93, 953 miles recorded, the BMW was transformed in 2018 with an in-depth restoration. As you can see from our accompanying images, the work went far beyond cosmetic improvements, with a complete nut-and-bolt rebuild that included new front wings, front panel, inner and outer sills, floor sections and boot floor. In short, any area requiring work or replacement was dealt with. Sparing and careful use since then means it still looks stunning.
Under the bonnet, the 1990cc four-cylinder engine remains equipped with the original Kugelfischer mechanical fuel-injection system. The engine has been fully rebuilt though. The original plastic inlet pipes are also present, an appealing detail for enthusiasts who appreciate the model’s correct mechanical character.
However, beyond this, the specification has been enhanced with a series of upgrades designed to improve performance, handling and usability. These include a five-speed Getrag gearbox, a 3. 91 limited-slip differential, 123 Bluetooth electronic ignition, Koni Classic suspension, a stainless-steel exhaust and polybushes throughout.
Together, these improvements offer sharper responses, improved transmission flexibility and greater confidence on modern roads while still retaining the essential feel and character of the original 2002 tii. It drives and performs far better than one might anticipate from a machine now more than half a century old.
