MGA 1959 – 30 years of driving pleasure with an exceptionally well-documented history
Some classics tell their story not just through how they look, but above all through the history they carry with them. This 1959 MGA is a particularly fine example of that.
The car is being sold by us on the instructions of its Belgian owner, who acquired it in 1994 after it had come to Europe from California. Thanks to the dry Californian climate, the MGA formed an exceptionally healthy and rust-free basis for a thorough restoration.
Shortly after the purchase, the owner embarked on a complete restoration that took around two years. Both the bodywork and the mechanicals were addressed, and the entire process was meticulously documented. Invoices for parts and completed work have been kept.
What followed is perhaps even more important. The owner used the MGA for almost 30 years and, together with his family, enjoyed it enormously. This is no classic that was simply put away after its restoration, but a car that was genuinely driven, maintained and enjoyed.
There is an exceptionally extensive file to prove it. Over almost 30 years, the owner kept a meticulous logbook of mileage, journeys, maintenance and work carried out on the car. Together with the restoration documentation and the many invoices, this gives a rare, complete picture of the life of this MGA.
Today the car still presents itself beautifully. The classic red bodywork, wire wheels and black leather interior form exactly the combination that suits an MGA so well. A black soft-top and tonneau cover are also included.
Mechanically, the car has always been well looked after. Recently it received a major service, the gearbox was partially rebuilt, and the clutch and water pump were, among other things, renewed. As a result, it drives just as a good MGA should: light, pure and thoroughly enjoyable.
This is a classic British roadster that doesn't need a special destination. Hood down, pick a lovely country lane and simply go for a drive. Compact, elegant, mechanically straightforward and with just enough character to make every journey something special.
