The Ford F-Series has long been one of America's most recognisable and successful commercial products, establishing a reputation for rugged construction, durability and versatility. The fifth-generation trucks, introduced for the 1967 model year, are affectionately known as the 'Bumpside', a reference to the distinctive raised character line running along the bodywork.
The Ranger XLT, introduced in 1970 as the flagship trim level, represented the more luxurious end of the range, distinguished by additional brightwork, exterior detailing and an upgraded interior. Combining traditional American pick-up styling with a more generously appointed cabin, the Ranger XLT remains a particularly desirable specification among enthusiasts of classic American trucks.
This 1972 example was previously supplied in California before recently being imported into the UK, primarily for use within the film industry. Power is provided by Ford's 360-cubic-inch (5. 9-litre) V8 engine from the company's FE engine family, providing the characteristic torque and traditional V8 soundtrack associated with Ford's full-size pick-ups of the period.
Adding an unusual dimension to its history, the truck featured in the 2026 comedy film The Sheep Detectives, starring Hugh Jackman. For its appearance in the production, the Ford was painted red to suit its on-screen role. Following filming, the truck was subsequently repainted blue for further film work, which has recently been completed.
With its desirable Ranger XLT specification, 360-cubic-inch V8 powerplant, and recent film appearances, this classic Ford pickup has an interesting story to tell. The truck will be sold with a current UK V5c.
