-Low-mileage, well preserved example
Introduced in 2000, the third-generation Toyota MR2 represented a return to the original philosophy of the model: lightweight construction, mid-engined balance and uncomplicated sporting enjoyment. The new Roadster adopted a more compact, deliberately minimalist approach, with a fully retractable fabric hood and beautifully proportioned two-seat bodywork. Weighing just 975kg, it was an exceptionally agile little sports car, developed around the principle that driving enjoyment need not depend upon outright power.
At its heart was Toyota's 1, 794cc 1ZZ-FE four-cylinder engine, featuring 16 valves and VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent) technology. Mounted transversely behind the cabin and driving the rear wheels, this naturally aspirated unit produced 140PS (138bhp) at 6, 400rpm and 125lb ft of torque. Paired with a precise five-speed manual gearbox, it delivered 0–62mph in approximately 7. 9 seconds and a maximum speed of 130mph. With its low centre of gravity, near-ideal weight distribution and responsive chassis, the MR2 offered an engaging and remarkably involving driving experience.
This example is finished in the attractive shade of Cape Green metallic. It presents in remarkably well-preserved condition, having spent much of its recent life in dry storage and seen relatively little use. The bodywork is notably straight, with bright, even paintwork, while the interior remains well preserved.
Accompanied by owner's wallet, handbook and service book, together with a partial service history and a collection of previous MOT certificates.
With just 42, 117 miles recorded, this charming MR2 offers an appealing opportunity to acquire an increasingly appreciated modern classic. Combining Toyota engineering, and engaging mid-engined dynamics.
