-Attractive example finished in classic Rosso Alfa
-Recent clutch replacement, servicing and attention to Weber carburettors
Few Italian sports cars capture the spirit of open-top motoring quite so elegantly as the Alfa Romeo Spider. First introduced in 1966 with distinctive Pininfarina styling, the Spider combined graceful coachwork with Alfa Romeo's celebrated twin-cam four-cylinder engine, responsive steering and a beautifully balanced chassis. Its enduring appeal ensured production continued through successive generations, establishing the Spider as one of the most recognisable Italian roadsters of the post-war era.
The 1. 6-litre version offers much of the character for which the model is celebrated, with its willing twin-cam engine, five-speed manual gearbox and engaging rear-wheel-drive handling. Light, responsive and particularly rewarding on winding roads, the Spider remains a fine example of Alfa Romeo's ability to combine true design flair with classic sporting character.
The example offered here is presented in traditional Rosso Alfa red, complemented by black upholstery with contrasting red stitching, a wood-rimmed three-spoke Alfa Romeo steering wheel and alloy wheels. The black folding hood was replaced some years ago and is reported to remain in very good condition. The overall presentation is that of an attractive, well-enjoyed example, retaining the unmistakable character of this much-loved Italian roadster.
Recent maintenance has included a replacement clutch, general servicing and specialist attention to the twin-choke Weber carburettors. The engine is described as running smoothly, with a well-shifting gearbox and the responsive, direct feel of the unassisted steering. The accompanying history file contains evidence of consistent maintenance, together with previous MOT certificates and the V5C registration document.
Now displaying approximately 190, 000 kilometres, equivalent to 118, 061 miles, this Spider has clearly been enjoyed as intended. It presents an appealing opportunity to acquire a usable and characterful Italian classic, ready for further summer motoring while offering scope for sympathetic cosmetic improvement at the discretion of its next custodian.
