Descrição
Triumph Toledo, a very rare 2 door short bumper model.
First registered November 1970 and therefore eligible for free road tax.
It is showing 67500 miles on the odometer. I have MOT certificates going back to 2007 and an previously agreed insurance valuation of £2500.
Paintwork is Damson Red and the upholstery is light tan Triumph PVC.
This car is in fabulous condition for a Triumph of its age and it collects admiring glances wherever it goes. Having said that it is not a concourse winner, there is faint evidence of a repair to the boot lid, doesn’t show in the photographs and the nearside sill was damaged on a kerb and repaired.
The shell is rock solid and there are no signs of it ever having been welded or needing any such repairs. I have had the inside panels off the doors to spray grease the locks and winder mechanisms and found the doors bone dry and rust free inside.
I recently fitted a reconditioned alternator and belt, so that should be OK for a few years.
I have slightly modified the instrument cluster, there is now an oil pressure gauge residing with the fuel and temperature gauges. There are two spare originals dual gauges, so it could be returned by a purist if required.
The original steering wheel is also included in a box of spare front and rear light fittings, hoses, wipers etc.
It drives arrow straight hands off, the engine starts first time and runs and pulls well. It is a delight to drive. There are no untoward noises from the gearbox and all four synchromesh gears engage cleanly. The clutch bites well but the withdrawal bearing makes a faint whistle when pressing the clutch pedal.
The steering rack and brakes have been renewed in the past 3000 miles and the car handles and stops very well. The engine was serviced at the same time.
I have covered about 1000 miles in the last 3 months or so and no oil or water has been used or leaked.
Its fuel economy is a bonus, it returns 34 mpg running about town and did 42 mpg on a recent 250 mile run, two up. Lead free petrol of course.
This car is a bit out of its depth on motorways, its comfortable cruising speed is only 55/ 60 mph. Max speed of about 87 mph is achieved at about 5, 470 RPM.
I was, therefore, planning to fit a Spitfire overdrive gearbox, have prop shaft shortened etc. to suit, but sadly my own physical condition have decreed otherwise.
I have therefore decided to let this Triumph go and I have found something else to improve / tinker with requiring less physical effort.
MOT expires 24th Jan 12
Tax expires end of March 12
