Hello, you have a chance to buy a very rare and unique car indeed. I have for sale an original 1300 X1/ 9 Lido which was bought with a view to bringing a car back to life. I purchased the car from a seller in Wales, which turned out to be quite a trek from Essex but was and still is worth the pilgrimage! The car was laid up in an old barn scheduelled for demolition, the pictures were poor and the condition was near impossible to tell. Poor old thing I thought to myself all covered in dust, after a spurt of sheer recklessness I had won the car! After a few sleepless nights I took a trailer upto Wales to collect the car. Upon arrival, the point where I first laid my eyes on the little beauty, I was smitten, I had the worst case of the Italian car bug. I still can't manage to shake it off. The car was covered in a thick layer of dust. The styling, the way the lines flowed, artwork! Underneath the dust the paintwork was excellent. It had had a respray some years back at the cost of £2000, considering it had then been laid up it was very very good. So, with that we put the car on the trailer and towed it back to Essex. It rained heavily that night and when I came to see the car in daylight I could fully appreciate it in all its beauty. I set about getting it roadworthy to an M. O. T. passable state, after literally £2000+ I was then able to get the car M. O. T'd, taxed and insured. The time I have spent on this car is staggering, every day after work I would go and complete the work required.
I completely overhauled the braking system with 2 brand new and 2 reconditioned callipers, new brake lines, new fluids etc. There was also a small amount of welding required around the brake lines in both rear wheel arches.
I fitted a 'used' but 'good':
Heater raditator
Main radiator
Exhaust
Thermostat housing
Various coolant pipes
Relays
Washer bottle (as opposed to the 1300 bags which puncture),
Steering column stalks,
Camshaft pulley etc.
Items which I have replaced with new parts are as follow:
Heatervalve
Headlights
Headgasket
All service items including cambelt and tensioner
Badge
Thermostat
2 brake callipers
Various gaskets
All fluids
Ignition coil
Drivers door mirror (not O. E.)
Waterpump drive belt
etc.
Why am I selling? Well I am moving house. I don't want to lay it up and undo all my good work so I think its time for it to leave the nest and give someone else as much pleasure as it has given me over the time ive had it. I do love this car, sad as it may be but it has to go. I will not have it left in some far away garage or leave it outside! Hopefully there is someone out there who can care and love for it as much as I have. Condition wise it is very good for a 28 year old Fiat! There is no rot anywhere on the car, rust is not visable until you look underneath, but its not bad, only surface rust! A wire brush and some wax oil will give it a new lease of life. The bodywork is very good, a few bits here and there, little nicks and the odd dent. There are a few creases in the passenger side door which were caused by the previous owner throwing wood beside the car! The engine runs very sweetly as it has been tuned by a mobile mechanic. Gear box is also good without knocks or whining gears, reverse is ok, it works and hasn't ever jumped out. Even with its antique cooling system it still manages to stay cool, I often flush and bleed the system to keep it tip top. The interior has seen better days, the drivers seat needs a recover, thats the problem with white alcantara seats, the passanger seat is good enough though. Door cards are ok, little nick out of one. Lido chrome bumpers are in OK condition, presentable. The car did not come with carello fog lights so I had to source them separately, these will be included if auction reaches anything over reserve. Targa roof is in good condition. Heater valve is not seized which I think you'll find is quite a novelty! Most electrics work, some trouble with the headlights not raising or lowering which occured only recently, considering its Italian its not that bad. Engine lid is in very good order, like I say I cant find any rust until I look underneath the car and only then its surface rust. Good alloy wheels, could do with a spray but not damaged. Im pretty sure I have listed as much as I can think of at this point. If you have any questions or want to arrange a viewing then send an e-mail or give me a call and we'll work something out.
Grab a nice little Italian sporty 2 seater targa roof and you can smile knowing you have the only Lido for miles around. I think there are only 26 in the world registered with the famous X1/ 9 owners site.
