Description

1965 Mercedes 220SE 2 door coupe, six cylinder petrol injection 2198cc engine. Right hand drive. Manual transmission. No central door pillar. The car is not running.
Old style V5 document and last (1989) MOT present, No new keepers since March 1983 (as stated on V5). Everything looks original from the radio to the engine.
The car was running when put into a garage in 1990, covered in a carpet and covers, and left there until this month. The wheels did not want to turn, so the front disk brakes were removed to allow it to move freely. The engine has not been tried, and the handbrake has not even been put on in case it won't come off again, so don't assume the brakes or handbrake work.
When it was put in the garage it was thought one of the cylinders was not firing correctly, but the cause was not investigated. Other faults known about are:
The drivers side key needs to be wiggled about to get the door lock to engage/ disengage.
The chrome on the front bumper has lifted and rust has formed below at both sides in a patch about 2 inches square.
The paintwork has bubbled on some parts of the vehicle from a poor respray in the 1980s, and there are various small marks and scrapes. It will need a respray. This was noticeable when it went into the garage.
The exhaust needed replacement when it was stored, so it will be worse now.
The photographs show the car, including the bumper chrome and paint bubbles. I have not been able to get underneath to take photographs, but I have stuck the camera underneath.
Large size and more photographs are available at - details above
The condition of the steelwork is not known, but does not seem to be a complete disaster. I don't have any means of raising the vehicle.
Although the car has not even been cleaned, at first glance it does seem to be in very good condition inside and out, and only when closely examined do the various defects become apparent. If all you want is an potentially beautiful classic car in the garage which you are going to do up one day, but haven't started yet, this is it. Sitting in the car, the smell of the leather seats, the feel of the manual gear lever and the large steering wheel evoke an age of motoring long gone. Mind you, the smell could be mould (only joking).
The car is in Aberdeen, 540 miles from London. Local pick up in Aberdeen only. The car is heavy and very long, and requires a substantial trailer to remove.
I took these details from various sources on the internet. They seem to refer to the vehicle but I can't be sure. They give vehicle size and weight to assist removal, as well as other Petrol-head information.
