Advertising on behalf of an elderly family friend. Volkswagen Golf GTi 1. 8, 8 valve, 3 door, factory sunroof , Mars Red, first registered 1/ 1/ 1985, one VERY careful owner, 106, 000 miles, 12 months MOT, currently on a SORN.
This car belonged to the son of a family friend who passed away suddenly in november last year. He bought the car new on the first of january 1985 since when it has always been garaged and has been his pride, joy and passion for almost 29 years. It was purchased from Gilders in Sheffield (VW main dealers) and was serviced there for many years (bills service record etc supplied)the original dealers plates are still on the car and the original paleblue V5, the replacement blue and current red logbooks are present. The car has never had any accident damage, paintwork and has always been fitted with genuine VW parts (the only exception being an aftermarket exhaust system recently fitted for the MOT). All old MOT certificates are present to confirm the mileage, as are all the old tax discs, reminders etc.
The car has been in dry storage since 2008 when the owners mother lost her sight and needed constant care. After he passed away his mother asked me to check the car over with a mind to selling , I have known the car since new and knew Martin took very special care of it, but I was knocked out by the originality and condition, as was the MOT man and the classic car restorer who fitted the exhaust both saying that it was the most original car they had ever seen.
I gave the car a thorough inspection, fitted a new battery put in fresh petrol, put a little redex down each plug hole and turned the engine over by hand then tried the key and it fired up straight away and ran perfectly (apart from the leaking exhaust that has since been replaced). The car was mot'd and needed one bulb in the rear light cluster cleaning to restore it to full brightness and the exhaust was replaced. The MOT man advised that there is a little lift in the nearside front strut top mount but not excessive and it cannot be felt or heard when driving the car. Apart from giving it a rudimentary clean and polish that is all I have had to do to the car.
The only issues that I know of are that 2 hub caps were stolen off the car when Martin left it unattended for a while and have not been replaced**** PLEASE SEE ADDITIONAL NOTE AT BOTTOM OF LISTING**** ( the wheels are the desirable Pirelli "P" slot alloys all in very good condition). The Interior is stunning (see pics) the only issue is the drivers seat needs cleaning to remove yellow dust that has come out of the foam back seat covers that have been fitted since new (I removed these for the photos and to inspect the condition of the seats, they will be included in the sale should the buyer want them. The covers are extremely good quality and in great condition)There is very little sign that the seats have been used. The only other thing that I have noticed is that the red coolant light on the dash board winks all the time, there is plenty of coolant and the engine runs bang on normal temp so I can only assume the sender is at fault. The car drives beautifully and feels tight with no bumps or rattles, the engine is sweet and very quiet, the car starts instantly from hot or cold and ticks over very smoothly - it feels and behaves like a new car.
The Golf is currently stored in its garage, at Gleadless in Sheffield, I will need a little notice (one or two days ) to arrange for viewing to take place due to work commitments. ADDED 13/ 4/ 14 -THE CAR NOW HAS A FULL SET OF "HUB-CAPS" as I found a pair hidden away in the back of the garage. I have also found the original Blaupuknt radio that was removed to fit an aftermarket unit at some point in the past, this will be included in the sale of the car so that it may be returned to factory original spec.
