The 4. 3 is the car Autocar Magazine described as:

“So close to greatness it hurts”.

More pictures: - details above

63, 000 miles
Full service history
Masses of bills/ invoices, all MOTs, rolling renovation log
Original sales brochure
Many magazine articles featuring TVR Griffiths (including this car in C&SC ‘Your Classics’) all included as part of the total ownership package

This car owned 5 years by active PH / TVRCC member, during which time the vehicle has been thoroughly and extensively overhauled including:

Clean, prepare, paint, stoneguard and waxoyl of chassis and suspension (see photos).
Full professional body preparation, localized repairs where necessary (no gel-coat cracks!) and doors / bonnet / boot lid off respray in graphite grey.
New hood and rear window.
FULL hide leather interior cleaned and nourished.
Electrical overhaul including preventative maintenance measures of new fuses, relays, connectors and soldered joins.
Suspension rebuild including new ball joints, steering joints, track rod ends, bushes and hardware.
Recent top end rebuild to TVR factory Big Valve specification by engine specialists V8 Developments.

The Big Valve specification was a very limited factory upgrade offered to 4. 3 litre Griffith customers to enhance their car’s top end performance. It was available from new, or as an approved after-market upgrade. Records vary but only between 3 and 36 (or so – these are TVR’s records!!) Big Valves left the factory. They are the holy grail of the original hard-core lightweight pre-catalytic converter Griffiths. Think ’72 911 RS…

Further upgrades include:
Rollcentre rollbar fitted by Tower View Race Services. This is the only rollbar on the market designed, built and, critically, sold to enhance safety, which does not obstruct seat adjustment. Includes 4 point harness eye bolts and four point harnesses. It does not encroach on head space, does not restrict rearwards seat movement and does not restrict removal of trim.
Stainless steel braided brake hoses.
Polyurethane suspension bushes and new suspension bolts.
Gaz adjustable shock absorbers and springs.
Dulford sports stainless steel manifold and Y piece.
Rose-jointed drop links.
Twin cooling fans (twin relays/ fuses).
Starter motor solenoid relay.
Sigma Thatcham category 1 alarm immobilizer.
Very rare satin finish Zertec handbrake and indicator stalks.

I have the original steering wheel and indicator stalks available. The rollbar is removable (it unbolts).

This car is in excellent condition (obviously). It exhibits none of the usual faults you travel 100s of miles to be ‘surprised’ by e. g.:
Windscreen rubber coming unstuck.
Windscreen milky and delaminating.
Grubby, worn leather.
Multi-coloured carpets.
A rear window you can’t see out of.
Glovebox that doesn’t shut.
Damaged / broken / missing bits.
A galaxy of stone chips.

Too many secondhand cars are described as ‘mint’ or ‘immaculate’. Even better is ‘immaculate for age’. What does that mean?!!
This car is in genuinely excellent condition all round. It’s condition belies its age because everything has been checked, refurbished or replaced. I guess it would be fair – and realistic - to say it looks and feels like a cherished two year old car.

Everything that has needed attending to has been done. Right down to greasing the bonnet rollers, centering the steering wheel and polishing the keyfob. (Why does my wife put up with me?).

Now the Griff Growl is over, I’ve taken the plunge and decided that I want to turn up at next year’s Growl in something different (one or two people have a clue what I mean). This car needs nothing more doing to it, so I need a new project. I’m not naïve, it won’t sell overnight at this money, but it does represent a rare opportunity to buy a genuine ‘needs nothing’ example of TVR’s most iconic, raw and rewarding model.

You could buy a bigger engined, lower-mileage, more refined Griffith for less. Or you could buy two Chimaeras (both excellent models in their own right – no offence to owners etc). But that’s not the point. If you want the ultimate pre-cat; the original, full-fat, undiluted, rebel with just two doors - here it is.
