Rootes developed the H120 Fastback. Based on the Rapier, the H120 had a more powerful version of the 1725 cc engine specially developed by Holbay Racing Engines. It developed 108 bhp (gross) at 5200 rpm and was fitted with a special cylinder head, high lift camshaft, tuned length four-branch exhaust manifold, special distributor and twin Weber 40DCOE carburetters. To enhance the driving experience, the H120 had a close ratio gearbox, a heavy duty overdrive and a high ratio rear axle.
This 1975 Sunbeam Rapier Fastback H120 is in very good condition, having 103, 000 miles on the clock and a full history of MOT’s to back this up. You can tell it has been garaged over the majority of its life being in a structurally solid state having had all the key welding done in previous years, including outriggers, sills, rear leaf spring mounts etc.
It was last ran on a regular basis a few years back and ran very well, I then decided to do a gradual part time restoration on it. So over the past years I've been sourcing all the best parts over the years trying to find dashboards without any cracks, none ripped interiors, original engine parts etc.
The paint work is currently looking tired, with areas starting to blister, the wings need a little attention, the next stage was to get it prepped ready for a re-spray, the previous owner painted it white but it was originally silver. It had a bottom end engine rebuild before I bought it and while in my ownership has had a top end rebuild including cylinder head skimming, valves re-ground, ports air flowed, new exhaust system and the twin webers all re-jetted, new fuel pump, ignition leads, up-rated coil, new battery so runs very well.
It's had all the breaks re built and my next task was to do all the suspension and replace the rear diff as it currently has a whine, it will come with the replacement diff part. The interior is in good condition but the headlining needs attention. It's not a concourse example but it's a very solid version that with some further love will not be far off a fine example. I have done majority of the work myself, mechanically it's very sound and overall a solid car, it's not MOT'd at the moment but wouldn't take much though; gearbox is sound including the overdrive in 3rd and 4th gear. It comes with loads of paperwork including the original manual.
My reason for sale is I have recently bought another Fastback that requires a full restoration. These are rare cars and if you are looking for one you know how often they don’t come up for sale, so grab it while you can you won’t regret it.
