This is a very rare opportunity to purchase a complete, matching set of four unused, New Old Stock Suzuki GT380 exhaust pipes (with their baffles in place), to fit the L, M, A and B models.
These are NOT pattern models NOR repaired/ rechromed used items. They are real, genuine, original, unused Suzuki exhaust pipes, for the UK model GT380, all with the same engraved Suzuki logos (evidently different logos existed) and as perfect as you can get them.
As you will know if you are reading this, Suzuki’s three-cylinder GT380 was one of the last of the classic 2-stroke motorcycles produced before tighter emissions requirements killed them off.
Back in the 1970s Suzuki were famous for their 2-stroke GT range. Their three iconic GT triples (380, 550 and 750) were marvellous fun then and are very collectible now. The huge, heavy and insanely fast, water-cooled 750 has been a popular collector’s target for a long time but in recent years the popularity of the smaller, better balanced and more rideable 380 has been growing strongly.
At a time when more exhaust pipes meant more motorcycle the triples were notable for having even more pipes than they had cylinders. These arrays of pipes facilitated their rocket-like performance and created a distinctive sound. In particular the 380 produced a delightful burble at tickover – described at the time by a reviewer (Motor Cycle News?) as like “a hoover with a misfire” – advancing to a feral roar at speed.
Unfortunately they also offered little ground-clearance and were vulnerable to excessively enthusiastic cornering by the unwary. So they often got seriously scraped.
Consequently, original exhaust pipes are one of the most important elements of a good GT380 restoration. Finding good used ones is extremely difficult. Finding NOS condition pipes is virtually impossible.
I bought these several years ago for a heartfelt GT380M restoration project. I had to stop before I’d really done what I wanted and it’s now obvious I shan’t be doing another one. So these pipes (and a few other remaining items, to be advertised soon) have to go.
