Description
1963 Puch Cheetah motor scooter in very original condition. This is the larger DS60R model fitted with a 60cc engine, earlier models were fitted with a 49cc unit.
I want to be 100% honest about the condition of this scooter, it's not mint, but it would be a crime to restore it, as it's remained virtually untouched since it left 'Moseley Cycles' in Birmingham in 1963 (see dealer's original water transfer). I last MOT'd the Cheetah between 2013 & 2014, this being the first time it had been used regularly for many years, the Cheetah ran well over that period and I had no problems with it. After using it throughout the Spring, Summer and Autumn months, I dry stored it until now and can't see why it wouldn't fly through another MOT with very little (if any) work. There is some flakey paint in places (see photos), there's a tiny plate welded to the floor (see photo), a small stress crack in the leg shield and I wouldn't want to drive to Cornwall and back on them tyres, but having said all that, she is 54 years old and she always starts first or second kick.
If you would like to come and view the scooter and judge the condition yourself before placing a bid please do so. I'm in most days and there's a cup of tea waiting for you.
A little history on this Cheetah.
I purchased the scooter about six or seven years ago from a bloke that obtained it from the bloke that bought the estate off the original owner after his death (if that makes sense). I was told that the Cheetah was originally owned by a man called ''Mick'', but there was no log book, keys, or any other information regarding the scooter. Apparently when Mick died his home was sold off and the Cheetah was left in the garage, then subsequently sold on by the new house owner. A few years after obtaining the Cheetah, I applied for a new log book and when I received it, the previous owner was indeed called Mick, (Michael John Ellis of 149 Beauchamp road, birmingham)
As I mentioned before there were no keys with the scooter, so the locker hadn't been opened for some years. After purchasing a new steering column and storage lock, I carefully removed the old and fitted new ones. The locker was a bit of a time capsule and contained all of Micks ''scootering stuff '' I've left his things just as I found them, his tool set, workshop manual, spare inner tube and 1960's black rubbery weather protection. Some might find these items a bit creepy and I'm happy to remove them if it's a problem.
In some pictures the Cheetah can be seen sporting panniers, these aren't a period accessory, but they're very useful and will be included in the auction, they fold up and fit neatly into the Cheetah's locker.
I'm selling this very original Austrian scooter with no reserve, but unfortunately I can only sell to UK buyers as shipping is too much of a problem.
