FIAT 500D FULL TRANSFORMABLE, 1962.
Has the motoring world ever seen anything more carefree and cute than the original Fiat 500? Arguably not, when the car was unveiled in 1957 but its charm is deeper than its styling. Its tiny dimensions meant that they were easy to park, frugal and great fun to drive. These attributes contributed to the car's iconic and genuinely classless image, where it is equally at home happily pining for attention in a pub car park or a supercar and champagne concourse event. Known as the Nuova 500, the car also has a place of historical importance in Italian society, helping the nation gain post-war economic confidence while helping to put millions of people on the roads.
These earlier cars, notable for its suicide doors are the ones that have gained traction as the most desirable.
This beautiful Fiat 500D has come to us originally from a renowned classic car collector, and we must say it is an absolute credit to her! The Fiat was built at the Turin Fiat plant, Italy, in 1962, and spent most of it’s life in Roma, before being purchased and shipped to the UK. Never used in the rain by the English classic car collector. Whilst residing in Italy, the Fiat was subject to a major restoration, which included a full bare shell re-spray, to not only the outside, but inside and to the underside also, and finished to a very high standard. We would describe the colour of the Fiat as cream or Old English " This 500D being an original rare full transformable, also boasts a full length black sunroof, which looks absolutely stunning against the ‘Old English’ colour. Mechanically, the car is very good, and the 499cc engine starts first time, and pulls well. The 4 speed transmission works smooth and precise. Most of the suspension and braking system were over hauled at the same time as the body was renovated. Refurbished wheels and new tyres have been fitted, along with new period nudge bars, and number plate surrounds, period tin number plates, new period door mirrors. a new dynamo, voltage regulator, battery, battery leads, and a new period luggage rack. The Fiat also comes with it’s original Italian log book. To sum up, a very smart looking show room condition Fiat 500D Transformable with suicide doors, that has been renovated and maintained to a very high standard. the interior though all original has also had a complete makeover. The Fiat drives as it should, with no known faults, and presents itself in one of the most desirable standard colour combinations. A very rare Fiat that is a pleasure to drive, and will be a pleasure to own. We certainly think this is one of the best examples of this model on the market.
