Here for sale we have a smart Series 3 hard-top presented in useful Station Wagon configuration. This set-up enjoys alpine lights (aids the view of rear passengers), correct sliding station wagon windows, and seating for up-to six people including the driver. In other words, this vintage truck can still be used to convey the family through mud and snow!
On the outside, the bodywork survives in fairly straight order as the photos demonstrate. Free Wheeling Hubs are fitted to the front wheels to increase fuel economy and reduce front-axle wear. A full set of military style tyres are fitted, which are slightly larger than normal and help with the gearing ratios to create a more relaxed driving experience. There is a rear step for passengers to climb into the vehicle, and a fully functioning towbar and electrics. Also fitted are fog and reversing lamps which both work as they should. Defender-style door mirrors are fitted to aid visibility to the rear of the vehicle.
The interior is quite nicely appointed, with matching seats to the front and rear. There is also a centre cubby-box fitted which is handy for 'out of sight' valuables, drinks and general storage. Deluxe matting is fitted to the front and the rear enjoys a load mat also. The vehicle also comes with a cranking handle, wheel brace and jack - items which are no longer often found in vehicles of this age. Lap Belts are fitted in the rear (2x per bench) for the safety of rear passengers.
Out on the road, this series pootles along very nicely, assisted by the Weber Carb, larger than average tyres and free wheeling hubs - these combined improvements make the driving experience more economical and a bit more comfortable also. Recent mechanical work includes a recent head-gasket replacement, and a brand new reconditioned gearbox - the achilles heel of the Series 3 variant! These recent works are good to note.
