For Sale: Austin Seven based Ashley 750 PROJECT.
Increasingly rare and hard to find Peter Pellandine designed Ashley 750 body with hard top, still in the original gel coat. Lovely looking cars - check out the Marque at: - details above
This is one of the earliest Ashley body shells from 1955/ 56 designed to fit the shorter 6' 3" Austin seven chassis. Both the Chassis and engine have been tweaked to improve performance and it may have been that this was originally intended to deliver a competition car for 750 motor sport. I planned to restore the car but time and space just don't allow this and i want to see it go to a good home where it might get on the road.
Details:
Chassis: Austin 7 chassis from around 1931. Boxed in underneath to improve the stiffness of the chassis 'top hat' x section. Rear springs flattened to lower chassis and improve handling. Front axle modified to provide independent front suspension with two stub axles and Bowden conversion. Brakes converted to hydraulic from cable driven. 4 x 15" spoked sports wheels with what appear to be good tyres and one spare wheel rim. Steering column raked to lower it to fit body shell's lower profile. Chassis is temporarily fitted to the body and will require more work to fit out fuel tank, rear suspension , brake/ fuellines, wiring, floors, dash etc..
Engine: 1933 Austin 7 engine with the 2 Bearing crankshaft. Engine modified with High compression Alta Alloy cylinder head and Suppaloy valve chest cover. Twin Zenith? Carbs fitted with lovely chrome 4 branch manifold which goes into twin exhausts. Dynamo and starter motor both converted to 12V. Engine turns over by hand but I have not heard it running yet.
Gearbox: 1934 4 speed gearbox with synchromesh on top two gears. Remote Gear change lever. Shortened propshaft links this to the rear axle.
Body shell: Glass fibre Ashley body shell and hard top - In good condition for its age, it has some crazing of the gel coat and this will require work before painting.
Other bits and pieces: Car is a project, so will require a ground up restoration. Sold with parts including full set brand new lights, indicators, reverse and fog lamps. Instruments include Oil/ water temp gauge, speedometer, Sports low profile cross flow radiator, a collection of steering columns, two Austin 7 bucket seats, assorted switches, fuel tank.
As I say, a rolling chassis not a runner so will require collection on a trailer. A very interesting project with all of the major components present and a variety of specialist modifications to improve performance and handling. No V5 or documentation present. Please contact me if you would like further details.
