The AC 3000 ME was offered for sale by AC Cars between 1979 and 1984. Only 76 examples were produced before the Thames Ditton factory doors closed in 1984. A further 30 cars were built under licence by a new company called AC Scotland, including a development car tested with an Alfa Romeo engine, but this company folded in 1985. The 3000ME is mid engined, with the 3. 0 litre Ford Essex V6 mounted transversely over a custom AC designed gearbox with Hewland internals. The car features a steel chassis making extensive use of square-section steel tube with a strong monocoque for the central portion of the body. This framework supports a body made of good quality fibreglass.
This example is one of the original Thames Ditton cars and has an extensive history file which documents recent works including new brake calipers, ball joints, driveshafts, wishbones and a gearbox overhaul. In addition to this, the chassis and (poly bushed) suspension have been overhauled and both cylinder heads refurbished and gas-flowed. The bodywork and standard Wolfrace alloys are in very good condition, the interior is well trimmed and the last owner has recently fitted replacement seats.
A rare and very well maintained AC which is highly entertaining to drive and very collectable!
