A riposte to the diminutive BMC Spridget duo, the Triumph Spitfire was launched in 1962. Based around a truncated Herald chassis, it was equipped with all-round independent suspension (double wishbone front / swing-axle rear), disc / drum brakes and rack and pinion steering. Styled by Michelotti, its wonderfully sleek two-door roadster bodyshell featured a clam-shell bonnet and decent boot. Evolved through five guises over the course of its eighteen-year production run, the MK3 variant arrived in January 1967. Fitted with an enlarged 1296cc OHV four-cylinder engine, it proved the fastest Spitfire yet. Visually distinguished by its front grille-bisecting bumper (a sop to US safety legislation), the newcomer also sported a wooden instrument panel and one-piece convertible hood.
Primero registrada en Londres el 22 de noviembre de 1970 (o eso implica su matrícula ‘FGP 151J’), el chasis FD90508 se unió a la colección William Hunt hace seis años. Obviamente objeto de numerosas restauraciones pasadas que se cree se completaron en 2017, el Triumph va montado sobre llantas de acero con tapas de cubo y lleva instrumentos de tablero en color crema. Actualmente en marcha y conducible, este codiciado MK3 Spitfire sin duda se beneficiaría de una nueva puesta a punto / revisión.
