Description
We offer this 1981 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur, a long-wheelbase Silver Spirit variant, hence with a vinyl-covered roof, in exceptionally original condition for its age, having covered only 35, 000 km (22, 000 miles) guaranteed.
Delivered new by Rolls-Royce dealer Jack Barclay Ltd to a member of the Saudi royal family in November 1981, a Saudi Prince living in the chic London district of Knightsbridge between Harrods and Buckingham Palace near Hyde Park, who was passionate about horse racing and owned an impressive stable of thoroughbreds, some of which won the American Prize and most of which raced frequently at Ascot. Our Prince, the sole owner of this car, passed away three years ago.
Of course, he had it chauffeured. The chauffeur kept a log of all his trips (mostly between his home and his stables) with dates, destinations, starting and return mileages, as well as technical information such as MOT, maintenance, and any suspicious noises which were systematically rectified at the next service at Jack Barclay, the official London dealer.
As the vehicle comes from an estate, in the last three years our Spur has been stored in an underground garage and has just undergone a full overhaul by a marque specialist for the modest sum of €5, 000, with invoices present in the file.
As you know, the Silver Spur was one of the most expensive cars in the world in 1981 (a copy of the original invoice is in the file showing more than £50, 000, a genuine fortune at the time, the equivalent today of around €250, 000) after the Rolls-Royce Camargue and the Aston Martin Lagonda, but this exemplar was fitted with a velour interior of the finest effect; Parkertex Savoy Velvet was indeed an expensive option at the time, whereas Connolly leather was standard for the ordinary buyer...
The vehicle remains in exceptionally original condition, evidently cherished, and runs as it should.
It comes with its service booklet duly stamped (no fewer than 22 stamps from the official dealer).
Viewable by appointment in Mouscron on the Franco-Belgian border near Tourcoing.
Delivery possible across metropolitan France at cost price.
Right-hand drive with UK registration.
The car is delivered duty-paid in the EU with issue of a 846A equivalent to the tax clearance certificate.
If you prefer to handle the customs formalities yourself, you may deduct €2, 000 from the asking price.
For information, these taxes amount to 5. 5% import VAT on the customs invoice value plus around €200 for declarations by customs export/ import agencies.
