Description
GT Butler offers you this Jaguar E-Type Series 1, French, matching numbers & colours, with an exceptional history and in superb condition! When Jaguar unveiled its E-Type at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1961, it came as a complete surprise. It came as a surprise because no-one had had any prior information about the Coventry-based brand's future Grand Tourer, and also because the E-Type's styling totally overwhelmed the crowds. A design by William Lyons, a sporty yet comfortable chassis and first-class performance were the hallmarks of the new Jaguar E-Type. Not to mention an unrivalled price, three times less than a Ferrari and half that of a Maserati... Today, these qualities endure, and the styling has become timeless - a true benchmark! +++++++++++++++++++++ The example we are offering is a very rare Type E Series 1 of French origin, matching numbers and matching colours. The vehicle has had just 5 owners since 1977 and its history confirms a mileage of just 163, 000 km! +++++++++++++++++++++ CONFIGURATION & HISTORY This E-Type left the factory in a beautiful Opalescent Gunmetal livery and grey leather upholstery. It is powered by a 3. 8-litre 6-cylinder engine, fed by 3 SU carburettors and developing 265bhp. The transmission is a TREMEC 5-speed mechanical gearbox, installed to replace the original MOSS 4-speed gearbox (original matching numbers gearbox supplied). The vehicle is still strictly in this configuration today: original body colour, upholstery, chassis and engine, with the original gearbox supplied separately. Our Jaguar was delivered new in October 1962 by the importer "Royal-Elysées F. Delecroix Paris". It has remained in the Paris region ever since! Almost all the registration documents of the various owners are present, enabling us to trace the vehicle's history. In the Yvelines from 1977 to 1981, then in the Hauts-de-Seine, owned by Mr Bareille until 1985. Still in Boulogne-Billancourt, then owned by Mme Le Guernec, it was sold in 1992 to Mr Bergouignan (dpt. 91), who kept it until June 2021, when its current owner took possession. The vehicle's file takes up an entire folder. There are numerous invoices, dating back to 1983. And all the vehicle's roadworthiness tests have been carried out since 1992... at intervals of 2-3 years, as the vehicle is registered as a standard vehicle rather than a collector's model! MAINTENANCE & WORK This E-Type has been meticulously maintained by its last owners. Over €50, 000 worth of work has been carried out in recent years, including a complete overhaul and modernisation of the braking system (AP Racing), replacement of the rims and tyres, replacement of the universal joints, removal of the front axle and installation of polyurethane silent-blocks, replacement of the 4 shock absorbers, replacement of the clutch receiver, draining of the gearbox and axle, replacement of the double stainless steel exhaust silencer, etc. In early 2024, the vehicle underwent major work on the ignition and cylinder head at O-One, a recognised specialist in classic vehicles: rectification of the cylinder head, rework of the valve seats (intake and exhaust), rework of the intake valves, replacement of the exhaust valves, adjustment of the valve clearance, replacement of the ignition head, ignition finger and ignition coil, replacement of the exhaust silent-blocks, replacement of the top engine seals, replacement of the brake fluid and air filter, carburettor oil change and adjustment/ synchro. Finally, a TREMEC 5-speed gearbox has just been fitted (new gearbox, clutch and flywheel). As for the upholstery, the leather backrests and seats (foams and suspension) have recently been redone, offering very appreciable comfort. Previously, numerous invoices reveal major restoration work on the engine and chassis between 1998 and 2002. The vehicle runs perfectly, starts very well both hot and cold and offers a driving experience beyond reproach. CONDITION The bodywork, windows and chrome are in very good condition, with no major defects. The paintwork, in its original colour, has a superb shine and no scratches or damage. The wheel rims are virtually new and free from any defects. The interior is in very good condition, with a magnificent patina. The original car radio is present but does not work. The other electrical equipment is perfectly functional. The vehicle has been appraised on several occasions, adding to its extensive history and confirming the care taken to preserve it over the years. In 1992, the expert estimated its value at 285, 000...
