The Atelier des 1000 presents for sale this 1959 MGA 1500 in a red exterior with a black interior configuration.
The MGA would replace the T-series models; it was the first model under BMC to feature a post-war design with its streamlined lines and solid mechanics, perfectly embodying the British Roadster of the 1950s.
The model we are presenting was registered in 1959 and comes to us from California. Factory-finished in a solid black colour, this car would deserve to be restored to its original configuration.
Mechanically the whole car has been overhauled; the engine bay is meticulously prepared: the engine is healthy and runs superbly, it starts easily with no noise or smoke, and the revs come up cleanly. It has benefited from a valve-clearance adjustment, the replacement of numerous engine gaskets, the replacement of its radiator and a general service. The gearbox has also undergone a complete rebuild, including full sealing and replacement of the synchronisers.
We note that, in addition to the engine and gearbox overhaul, many peripheral costs were incurred such as the replacement of shock absorbers and suspension springs, or the clutch actuator.
The chassis has been rebuilt in the past and is free from corrosion. The thermal and acoustic insulation of the floors has been renewed.
The whole car behaves well; the braking system has been overhauled and is balanced, the steering is precise, and the Yokohama tyres are in very good condition.
The paintwork is aged and could do with a refresh; the engine bay and boot are already black, so this is an opportunity to return the car to its original configuration.
The bumpers are in good condition and all the chrome trim gleams.
The upholstery presents well; the seats are comfortable and show a light patina that suits it very well.
The carpets are in good condition.
The original Bakelite steering wheel is present and the instrumentation operates correctly. The fuel gauge has just been replaced.
The black hard-top is in very good condition and comes with the car.
The hood frame and hood are in good condition and its side screens are present.
Given the condition and specification of this MGA, we are asking €23, 990.
