Description
Uniqueness of the specimen:
• Collector's registration document
• Major servicing completed
Our Land Rover Series III 109 was registered in France on 18 January 1977. This long-wheelbase model is one of the few preserved examples with such authenticity and a mechanically pristine condition. It was used by the Haute-Provence fire brigade as an intervention vehicle, and this exemplar has a history exclusively in France. An appraisal was carried out early 2025 with an estimated price of €40, 000.
This exemplar sports a period blue paint, in good condition, paired with a black interior. The bodywork is in good condition and the chassis has been carefully ground down and repainted to professional standards, with no blackson.
Under the hood, there is a reliable 71 bhp petrol engine paired with a manual transmission. The mechanics have been overhauled by a specialist in vintage vehicles, including:
• Refurbishment of brakes and suspension.
• Engine opening for a full overhaul: sealing, engine gaskets, water pump, radiator and ignition.
• Carburettor overhaul.
• Fitting of four new road-legal tyres.
Before sale, a head-gasket torque and brake check will be performed to ensure delivery in optimal condition. The last full service dates from December 2024, and the 2023 MOT shows no defects since the refurbishment. The original hardtop is available.
Historical overview of the model:
The Land Rover Series III 109, produced between 1971 and 1985, represents the culmination of an evolution that began with the original 1948 model. Initially conceived as a utilitarian vehicle inspired by the military Jeep, the Land Rover stood out for its welded steel chassis and aluminium body, a choice dictated by post-war material shortages. These elements contributed to its outstanding durability.
The Series III model, with 440, 000 units produced, retained the iconic design of its predecessors while introducing notable improvements. It was the first to offer a fully synchronised gearbox. The long version (109 inches) offered innovative configurations, such as the "High Capacity Pick Up", providing a larger load bed and reinforced suspension, ideal for industrial use.
The 2. 25-litre petrol and diesel engines gained rigidity thanks to a five-bearing crankshaft introduced in 1980. Comfort options, such as the "County Pack" with padded seats and soundproofing, were added to attract a broader audience without losing its utilitarian character. Today, the Series III 109 remains an icon of off-road vehicles.
