Description
Morgan Plus 4 « bustle back », year 1956.
Chassis number 3528, engine number TS10658.
Original matching numbers (authenticity certificate signed by Charles Morgan available). Exterior colour dark blue (Midnightwatch Blue) and interior burgundy leather.
The car is equipped with a black cold-weather package including a soft top, side windows in aluminium-framed mounts and a tonneau cover. The Morgan Plus 4 « bustle back » is the rarest Plus 4 model due to its transitional-bodied rear, with a more vertical rear, in 1930s style.
Only a few tens of examples were built between 1956 and October 1958 (from chassis no. 4023), the date at which Morgan opted for a slanted rear panel and a shifted fuel cap. This classic Morgan was sold new in Minnesota, United States. It would appear that it was fitted with competition options from factory.
This magnificent Morgan Plus 4 has been fully and perfectly restored and modified in the United States. The modifications aimed to improve braking (safety), performance, handling and driving comfort.
The braking system was modernised with a dual circuit and Plus 8 disc brakes at the front.
A Triumph TR6 clutch was installed for its smoothness and reliability, enabling the extra power of the prepared engine to be managed.
The latter is the original block from the Triumph TR3, fitted with two Weber double-barrel carburettors (42 DCOE). The carburettors and their air filters are neatly housed under a bulge on the right side of the bonnet.
Cooling was also improved, an aluminium oil sump was installed, as well as an electric fuel pump with pressure regulator.
A side exhaust was mounted and, finally, high-end Koni shock absorbers were installed. The engine runs and sounds wonderfully, and the power is transmitted to the rear wheels by a lively four-speed manual gearbox.
The car handles superbly thanks to its Koni shocks and 195/ 60/ 15 Continental tyres mounted on lightweight wire wheels (72 spokes).
The driving experience is intense and spectacular: the steering wheel is within reach, the driving position is low, and the unobstructed view of the long bonnet, from which heat escapes through the two rows of cooling vents, is impressive.
Add to that the sporting sound from the side exhaust and you know competition is underway! Reserved for experienced drivers!
