Description

The Morgan Super Sports no. 4826 constitutes an exceptional model: the second one produced and the first left-hand drive version. Out of the factory on 21 June 1961, it joined the importer Fergus Motor in New York, alongside no. 4837. A notable anecdote surrounds their departure: the bonnet numbers are reversed, a situation greeted with humour by the factory – “that’s Morgan.”

A matching-number example, it is one of the few cars fitted with cream-coloured dials, a feature Morgan used during a very limited period. It remained in the United States until 1992, forgotten in a barn and only reappearing in 2013 during the sale following the owner’s death.

A enthusiast, aided by the British specialist Richard Thorne, then searched for an authentic Super Sports. The expertise of Martyn Webb, archivist at Morgan, officially confirms the authenticity of 4826, notably thanks to a handwritten inscription in the era’s Record Book. A full restoration is undertaken over two years, with the instruction to retain as many original parts as possible – a high-budget job including reconstruction from a new chassis rematched to the number 4826.

Double objective: preserved authenticity and FIA compliance for circuit competition. The PTH is obtained, valid until 2026, with a French collectors’ registration. The car features a “matching color” inspired by the legendary TOK 258 from the 1962 Le Mans test. Emotion runs high on its return to the Morgan factory in Malvern, an event covered by a four-page feature in the MOG magazine.

Since 2016, 4826 has evolved on the circuit with targeted improvements: Moss gearbox and JB Engineering Salisbury axle, Webber 42 mm carburettors. With only 870 kg, excellent balance and enduring braking, it now offers driving that is as accessible as it is performance‑oriented — faithful to the spirit of the true Morgan Super Sports.

Having ourselves owned and raced at Tour Auto, Le Mans Classic, Goodwood, and in 2-hour races in both Sixties and Fifties on many European circuits, we can assure you that the Morgan +4 is a pleasure to drive, very efficient, with incredible handling, extremely reliable and with affordable maintenance.

This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire a very rare Super Sport, authentic and with a known history.
