The Morgan Plus 8 is one of the Morgan Motor Company's most iconic models, blending pre-war styling with modern performance.
Introduced in 1968, it retains the marque's traditional styling cues — separate fenders, vertical grille and ash wood construction — while incorporating a V8 engine that would define its reputation.
At launch, the Plus 8 was fitted with the 3. 5 L Rover V8 with carburettors, derived from the old Buick engine, which already offers very high performance thanks to the car's light weight. In the 1980s, the engine evolved with the adoption of electronic fuel injection (notably the Lucas system), improving both power and reliability.
In the early 1990s, displacement gradually increased: 3. 9 L and then 4. 0 L versions appeared, offering more torque and smoother driving. In 1996, Morgan introduced the 4. 6 L V8 with electronic management by GEMS, marking the model's technical apex with particularly muscular performance. Subsequently, some versions received injection and electronic updates, notably to meet emissions standards on various markets.
Despite these mechanical evolutions, the philosophy remains unchanged: a light, powerful and very direct-to-drive car.
Produced until 2004 in this classic Rover V8 engine configuration, the Plus 8 remains today a reference for roadster enthusiasts seeking a raw and authentic character. It is also one of the most representative cars in terms of its style, construction, power and position in the range, but also exclusive, from the small British manufacturer.
