Description
Renault 16 TL TS TX. How many out of the 1. 8 million vehicles produced by Renault still exist? How many of them are really in good condition? And how many are therefore for sale? In any case, this one:
A November 1977 Renault 16 TL in excellent condition (type R. 1152). The car is equipped with a 1, 565 cc engine developing 67 bhp and comes from a genuine enthusiast (the author of the book “La Renault 16, une machine innovante à remonter le temps”). I bought it in 2022 in Vendée and drove it myself to the Netherlands. The car is original, rust-free and without welds. In the same year, a five-speed gearbox, completely overhauled – and thus almost new – with a new clutch, was installed at the Centre 16. Inspectors from the Netherlands Renault Oldtimers Club and those from Centre 16 were impressed by the car’s quality. “Make the most of it,” was their description. After all maintenance work, the car was treated with Tectyl and cavity sealant mastic in 2023, then equipped with Lokari aluminium wheel arches, guaranteeing rust resistance (these wheel arches are also treated with black Tectyl). The entire process is documented with photos. More than €12, 500 (specifications available) have been invested in recent years to transform a beautiful and robust R16 that had a touch of patina into a car in excellent condition!
During its French life, the R16 was repainted in its chic original colour, Elysée Metal Grey, and the paint is therefore in very good condition. It has covered 84, 000 kilometres and comes with full documentation. For example, the original booklets are present, as is the French registration with historical number plates, many original technical control reports and numerous invoices. The car is fitted with the rare Dunlop aluminium wheels that Renault mounted on the TS Super (the only version fitted with alloy wheels, by the way). It drives as one would expect from a collectible car in this price range: very well, without a doubt. In part thanks to electronic ignition. In June 2025, when it was 48 years old, the 16 passed its very last technical inspection. After all, in the Netherlands an MOT is valid for two years, and after 50 years it is no longer mandatory.
A solid price, you say? It is also a Serious Seize: this classic car is not restored and, of course, is not literally new, but it is very beautiful, solid and in very good condition! If you are looking for an investment, this is a unique opportunity. If you are interested, you are warmly invited to come for a road test, if the weather allows. But if your first question is what price it could sell for, there is no point in starting a conversation. The so-called “Rseizists” understand it well…
