The Alfa Romeo 1300 Junior Zagato ranks among the rarest and most exclusive sport coupes in Alfa Romeo’s history. Its creation is inseparable from the prestigious Carrozzeria Zagato, a coachbuilder long recognised for its rigorous approach to light construction, aerodynamic efficiency and an autonomous, avant-garde stylistic language. In the 1960s, exceptional coupes emerged based on Alfa Romeo technology, deliberately distinct from Bertone’s better-known creations – leaner, uncompromising and more distinctly styled in the spirit of motorsport. The distinctive line, shaped by functional design and artisanal precision, follows a clear principle: maximum performance for minimum weight. The lightweight bodies and compact construction confer on the Zagato remarkable agility and a driving experience that is extremely direct. The 1300 Zagato was powered by the legendary Twin-Cam Alfa Romeo engine – a high-revving, lively and responsive unit, cherished for its characteristic sound and immediate power delivery. Paired with a precise chassis, reduced weight and a direct feedback, it yields a driving experience that remains unmatched to this day. Because of very low production volumes and the large number of examples lost over the decades, surviving cars are today among the most sought-after and rare Alfa Romeos. Our mission The Scuderia Sportiva group – to which the legendary Alfa Classic Center of Dortmund has belonged since 2023 – has restored and rebuilt over the past decades numerous classic Alfa Romeo vehicles with the utmost precision. Beyond restorations strictly faithful to the original, demand for restomods is continuing to grow: a fascinating alliance between classic aesthetics, traditional know-how and modern technologies. A vehicle that not only preserves the soul of its era but also entices with contemporary performance, enhanced reliability and everyday usability. For many enthusiasts, such an Alfa Romeo is far more than a car – it is an expression of individuality, style and the link between past and present. Our restomod approach Our approach transposes the exceptional Zagato form into the present – without distorting its original character. The future owner is intentionally offered the choice between several technical concepts: A faithful restoration of the 1, 300 cm³ Alfa Romeo engine, in which the lightness, liveliness and authenticity of the vehicle are entirely preserved. Alternatively, a technically modernised concept based on a 2. 0-litre Alfa Romeo Nord engine, paired with the corresponding 2. 0 rear drive, an optimised chassis setup and a more powerful braking system – for a driving experience clearly more souveraine and suited to long journeys. We also realise a restomod concept decisively evolved on the Twin Spark basis developing at least 190 bhp – a blend of traditional lightness and modern high-level performance. Paired with a reinforced 5-speed gearbox, finely tuned suspension geometry and a modern braking system, it results in a vehicle that combines Zagato’s purist character with contemporary driving dynamics. In our elegant VM Signature version, we elevate this exceptional coupe with flawless artisanal craftsmanship. The highest-quality materials such as leather and Alcantara, seats fully rebuilt and surfaces and details defined to measure are crafted by hand with great precision. At the same time, we discreetly integrate modern comfort features such as air conditioning, electric windows, optional power steering, central locking and a discreetly integrated Hi-Fi audio system, along with other functional improvements. Thus is born a car that preserves its classic substance while meeting the demands of modern use – with no compromise on character or aesthetics.
