Description

Highly sought-after Porsche 356 A T2 Coupé by Reutter, one of the most prized configurations in the 356 range. Last year of production for the Porsche 356 A (1958), generally regarded as the most accomplished of the A series. Bodywork by Reutter — Porsche’s historic coachbuilder and an absolute reference for the early 356 Coupé. Fitted with a Type 616/ 1 T6 1, 600 cc engine taken from a Porsche 356 B. Professional restoration in the past with an honest and authentic presentation. The Porsche 356 A is regarded by many enthusiasts as the ideal balance within the entire 356 family. With a total production of around 21, 000 units across all bodies, the 356 A is considerably rarer than the later 356 B models, while well-preserved and authentic examples are even rarer today due to past race use and intensive restorations. This example is a 356 A T2 Coupé, built in 1958, the last year of production for the A series. The T2 version is considered the most technically accomplished variant of the 356 A generation, combining classic design with the most refined technology of the A series. Consequently, T2 models are often regarded as the “sweet spot” of the 356 A. The bodywork was crafted by Karosserie Reutter, the historic coachbuilder who collaborated closely with Porsche from its beginnings. Reutter was renowned for the quality of its steel constructions, the precision of its fittings, and its timeless proportions, making 356 models with Reutter bodies especially authentic and sought after by collectors today. Another interesting technical detail is the presence of a 1, 600 cc Type 616/ 1 T6 engine sourced from a Porsche 356 B T6 (engine number 608366). This newer engine version delivers smoother power delivery and a more refined operation, enhancing the driving experience without compromising the classic character of early 356s. Coupled with the A T2’s lightweight chassis, this yields a particularly harmonious and enjoyable driving configuration. This example has been professionally restored in the past and today presents with an overall honest impression, with signs of use and points of attention properly documented.
