Description

« Lazarus Mog »
1962 Morgan +4 Super Sports Low line
A rich tale, a European Championship-winning car
Eligible for Le Mans Classic, Tour Auto and all pre-1966 GT races
FIA HTP valid until 2028
Traded on public roads

In 1962, the small British sports-car builder Morgan Motor Company decided to modify its mid‑range Morgan +4 to win races, and that is exactly what it did. The Super Sports was superior in every way to its +4 cousin. With a lightweight alloy “Lowline” body and a 2. 2-litre Triumph engine prepared for racing and fitted with two Weber carburettors, it’s no surprise that it took its class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in ’62.

This particular car, affectionately nicknamed “Old Mog” and “Lazarus Mog” by its owners over the years, is an experienced veteran racer and multiple-time race winner, prepared to race as a Super Sports Lowline in the late 1970s. Its journey took it to the Netherlands, where it was driven by two owners: Michael Lucassen, who campaigned it with some success in Dutch historic racing, and Peter Ecury, who piloted it across the continent, Russia and Algeria between 1980 and 1984. He won the Benelux Historic Championship and the European Championship. The car was later sold to its American custodian: Professor Michael Mulroney, who raced it in various SCCA and SVRA events from 1985 to 2012.

Professor Mulroney was a talented writer and penned numerous articles and essays about the car and its race team “Phlexed Spincter” (sic). The amateur driver extracted maximum enjoyment from the car before selling it to Machines with a Mission.

In 2017 and 2018, we completely stripped and rebuilt the car to FIA specifications to take part in the 2018 Le Mans Classic. Modifications included a new all‑steel engine, new exhaust manifolds, a new gearbox, and a super‑sturdy roll cage. A Tillet seat and a FIA‑approved new fuel tank. Since its rebuild, the car has raced only at Le Mans in 2018, Monza in 2019 and in a Masters race at Brands Hatch in 2022.

This great classic race car is probably the most cost‑effective entry at the Le Mans Classic and can be driven in all other FIA pre‑'66 events sanctioned by Peter Auto, such as Sixties Endurance, Masters, 6 Hours of Spa‑Francorchamps, Tour Auto, 1000 Miles of Modena, etc.
