This magnificent 1951 Vincent Rapide has had only one owner since 1962: a Vincent enthusiast, a collector of ten models. It goes without saying he was a true petrolhead!
The Vincent Rapide hardly needs an introduction. Launched in 1946, it was the fastest production motorcycle on the market and remains an icon of British motorcycling, notably thanks to the images of its Bonneville salt lake feat, where the rider Rollie Free, dressed only in shorts and stretched to minimise wind resistance, set a new record.
This Series C Rapide, with all numbers matching, was first registered on 30 March 1951 and passed through three owners before being cared for by its current owner for nearly 65 years!
All numbers are authenticated by the Vincent Owners Club registry, and a certificate of authenticity confirms the concordance of the frame numbers (UFM + RFM) and engine, as well as that of the rear engine cases.
This Rapide runs perfectly and starts at the first kick once the technique is mastered. The engine and gearbox have been completely rebuilt, with the odometer showing only 66 miles. Gears shift smoothly and the clutch is soft and easy to operate.
A few quality enhancements have been made, such as the iconic 5-inch Smiths Black Shadow speedometer and the ribbed Black Shadow brake drums at the front and rear, with front Black Lightning alloy discs. Additionally, a discreet reinforced front brake plate has been fabricated from alloy and lightened.
The original Miller headlight and ammeter are still present, while a more recent replica Miller taillight has been installed. The exhaust and silencer are stainless steel.
Aesthetically, the Rapide is superb. The fuel tank paint shows a few irregularities and would benefit from polishing. All other parts and paint are in excellent condition.
This is a stunning Series C Rapide, with matching numbers, cherished by its long-time owner. Clearly restored recently, its engine runs like clockwork and delivers an exceptional exhaust note.
It is sold with its British registration document (V5C), its original service book (brown logbook), and its MOT certificate (VOC).
