Description
Here is the Alfa Romeo SZ – a brutal blend of design, performance and history. Also known as Il Mostro, this automotive icon embodies Alfa Romeo's uncompromising vision of the late 1980s. Think of cassette tapes, fluorescent sports jackets and the golden age of analog passion.
What makes this car unique? Absolutely everything. The SZ sports a design you would not expect from a production car. Its sharp lines and angular stance evoke more of a prototype than a road-legal production model. And yet this futuristic appearance was indeed built in Italy, with a high-tech thermoplastic composite body – revolutionary for the time – mounted on the Group A Alfa Romeo 75 racing chassis.
Under the bonnet beats the heart of the legendary 3. 0-litre Busso V6. The sound? A mechanical aria that sends shivers down the spine of any petrolhead. Thanks to the five-speed manual box, every journey becomes a flying lap at the Monza circuit.
This precise example of the Alfa Romeo SZ, bearing production number 771, was delivered new in Japan. In 2012, the car joined the United Kingdom, where it passed into the hands of a Dutch owner. When he returned to living in the Netherlands, the SZ naturally accompanied him. Since 2023, the car has been officially registered in the Netherlands.
Since its stint in the UK, the SZ has been cared for by a major Alfa Romeo specialist. Over the years, it has been meticulously tracked and today remains in excellent technical condition. Yes, it bears here and there a few charming Italian imperfections, but that is part of its character.
As a cherry on the cake, this SZ comes with a birth certificate, black on white, confirming its origin and authenticity.
