Powertrain – Optimised configuration
Original 1600 engine replaced with a 1800 B-Series 5-bearing unit, large-valve cylinder head, sourced from an MGB.
Same BMC architecture, 5-bearing crankshaft for increased rigidity and improved durability.
Mechanical rationale:
• High compression ratio → improved efficiency
• Weber carburettor on a bespoke inlet manifold → better filling
• Maniflow 4-into-1 stainless-steel exhaust manifold → optimised evacuation
• Programmable electronic ignition 123 Ignition → optimised advance curve
• New electric fuel pump
• New starter motor
• New alternator
• Fully synchronised MGB gearbox
• New clutch, its slave cylinder, and new flexible hoses

• Instant start
• Stronger, very noticeable torque from mid-range
• Estimated power: 100–105 bhp (72 bhp for the 1600)
• Estimated torque: 150–155 Nm (121 Nm for the 1600)
