Powertrain – Optimised configuration
Replacement of the original 1600 engine with an 1800 B-Series 5-bearing, large-valve head, sourced from an MGB.
Same BMC architecture, 5-bearing crankshaft offering increased rigidity and durability.
Mechanical justification:
• High compression ratio → improved efficiency
• Weber carburettor on a dedicated intake pipe → better filling
• Maniflow four-into-one exhaust manifold, all stainless → optimised scavenging
• Programmable electronic ignition 123 Ignition → optimised advance curve
• New electric fuel pump
• New starter
• New alternator
• Fully synchronised MGB gearbox
• Clutch, its slave cylinder and hydraulic lines new

• Higher, broad torque present around mid-range
