Powertrain – Optimised configuration
Replacement of the original 1600 engine with a 1800 B-Series 5-bearing, big-valve cylinder head, sourced from an MGB.
Same BMC architecture, 5-bearing crankshaft providing increased rigidity and better durability.
Mechanical justification:
• High compression ratio → improved efficiency
• Weber carburettor on a dedicated intake pipe → better filling
• 4-into-1 Maniflow stainless exhaust manifold → optimised exhaust
• Programmable electronic ignition 123 Ignition → optimised advance curve
• New electric fuel pump
• New starter
• New alternator
• Fully synchronised MGB gearbox
• New clutch as well as its slave cylinder and hydraulics
Result:
• Instant starting
• Higher torque and very present mid-range
• Power estimate: 100 - 105 bhp (72 bhp for the 1600)
• Torque estimate: 150 - 155 Nm (121 Nm for the 1600)
