Description

For sale: Ferrari 308 GT4 (1977), one of the 1, 400 original Ferrari-badged 308 GT4s.
The birth of the Ferrari V8 dynasty. Introduced in 1973, the Ferrari 308 GT4 marks a major milestone in Maranello’s marque history. Designed to broaden Ferrari’s range, it preserves the performance and driving feel that earned its reputation. It stands out for its innovative architecture, pairing a mid-rear engine with a 2+2 seating layout, a rarity at the time. Its styling was entrusted to the famous coachbuilder Bertone, which produced a modern and bold silhouette. With its taut lines and balanced proportions, the 308 GT4 perfectly embodies 1970s styling. Under its rear bonnet sits a 2, 927 cm³ naturally aspirated V8, equipped with four camshafts and four Weber carburettors. Developing up to 255 horsepower in its European specification, this engine is notable for its lively character and its distinctly Ferrari exhaust note. Paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, it allows the 308 GT4 to top over 250 km/ h. Thanks to its mid-rear engine and balanced chassis, the 308 GT4 benefits from precise and dynamic handling. It offers an authentic driving experience while providing rare practicality thanks to its four seats. In 1976, Ferrari decided to badge the 308 GT4 with its famous Cavallino Rampante. The examples produced from that date onwards receive the original Ferrari emblems. They account for roughly half of total production, i. e. around 1, 400 units. Produced from 1973 to 1980 in only 2, 826 examples, the Ferrari 308 GT4 occupies a singular place in the marque’s history. Today, it is increasingly sought after for its carburettor V8, its performance and its excellent ease of use. A true analogue Ferrari, the 308 GT4 appeals to enthusiasts seeking an authentic, rare and endearing sports car. History of this 1977 Ferrari 308 GT4 Delivered new in France by Charles Pozzi in 1977, this Ferrari 308 GT4 has a particularly interesting history. Thanks to the thorough research by its latest owner, we have traced its journey back to 2002, when it was in the Moselle department. In 2006, it moved to the Paris region, from which it would not depart despite several ownership changes in 2007 and 2009. During this period, it spent time between Paris, Bordeaux and Crans-Montana. Its current owner bought it in 2014 and has kept it in the Paris region ever since. The car benefits from an extensive file of invoices and maintenance records, allowing its history to be traced over nearly twenty years. Among the most significant works are a complete engine rebuild carried out by a recognised specialist in 2019, and a body restoration completed in 2026. Bodywork: The car has just been completely repainted in Blu Scuro Dino, an elegant dark blue. During the full stripping of the body, no trace of any other colour was found, suggesting very likely it is its original shade. The quality of workmanship is outstanding. The adjustment gaps on doors, bonnets and closures are excellent. The paintwork presents a superb taut finish, with a true mirror-like effect. And it still features those period yellow headlights! Interior: The cabin has retained most of its original presentation with a black leather and velour interior. Only the driver’s seat cushion has been recovered during its life. The headlining, door panels and carpets are in very good condition and show the care given to this Ferrari over many years. It is also fitted with its Becker Europa radio! Engine and gearbox: The mechanicals have benefited from regular maintenance, including several major interventions: 2014: radiator replacement; 2015: installation of a stainless steel “Mild Sport” exhaust; 2019: complete engine rebuild by a recognised specialist; 2023: replacement of cambelts and cooling fans. The engine runs perfectly, delivering the characteristic Ferrari carburetted V8 note. Running gear and braking: The running gear and braking system have also benefited from rigorous monitoring. In 2016, the front and rear suspension were completely refurbished. In 2023, the brakes, tyres and wheels underwent substantial work. Today, the car shows healthy, precise and particularly pleasant handling. Contact Cecil Cars.
